(prefacing this by saying this professor loved me as a student and fully believed/respected my word on this, this was just a bit of a cognitive shift for him)
One time in my writing 2 class in college (spring 2013), te professor said dinosaurs were extinct, I said not all dinosaurs because birds were dinosaurs, he said, "really?" I said "yes." He said, "All birds?" I said, "yes." He said, "But not like robins, like you're not gonna look at a bird on a tree and say, look at that dinosaur." I said, "you should, because they're all dinosaurs. " He said, "Well, they're not dinosaurs the way that, say, a pterodactyl was a dinosaur." I said to a professor, "Pterodactyls actually weren't dinosaurs, they were pterosaurs which were actually just mesozoic flying reptiles." Professor stared out the window and said, "I need to reevaluate everything I know and my entire life."
it’s the people who act personally offended by these things that baffle me. like, really? dinosaurs being all extinct and including pterosaurs and not birds is really that fundamental to your sense of self worth? really?
hi rathologic. this doesnt even matter but i wanted to know if i was just imaging things... while playing classic and dicking around as daniil i was stabbing the air repeatedly and eventually got an animation where he flipped his knife in the air . is this a thing that happens or did i just imagine it because ive never seen it since
bit of a mystery to solve, but I think I have an explanation! the script fragment for the bachelor’s knife attack (for all melee attacks IIRC) usually flips a coin and plays one of the two animations at random - in this case, a forward stab or a horizontal slash - and these animations are coded into his hand mesh. there’s a blocking action bound to RMB, but it does nothing for the knife.
however, there is a third attack animation for the knife. this is the backstab, played if your camera reticle is pointed at the head or upper back of an NPC who does not see you (these attacks do a bit more damage). the animation does in fact involve “flipping” the weapon! recorded below for your viewing pleasure:
if this is what you saw, the plausible explanation is that while you were wandering around you came close enough to a wandering NPC for the “sky” to detect as part of that NPC’s back-of-head collision and play the backstab animation. however the funnier explanation is that dankovsky was looking in a direction so weird that he tried to stab the back of his own head
okay so the thing is. the thing that escalates this from "annoying thing to do" to "hysterical prank 10/10 what the fuck" is the fact they terraformed it. because like. okay. if they wanted solely to annoy doc, putting a regular layer of some material with a decent explosion resistance over the top of it would do it. doing a flat plane of dirt would do it. you'd see that and go "the mad lads they covered the perimeter up". but they terraformed it. they put in the effort of not only doing hills, but doing minecraft plains biome style hills. they're rolling. they put TREES on it. they made it look like, at first glance, the terrain could have come in that way. it looks good. it took way more effort to make than it will ever, ever take to clean it up. it makes it so that your first instinct on seeing it isn't "oh my god someone put a cap on the perimeter" it's "OH MY GOD, WHERE DID THE PERIMETER GO, WHAT THE FUCK". it's brilliant. it's a work of art. doc is gonna tweet so much about it. 10/10, excellent hermitcraft prankage.

i'm regularly astounded by the cognitive dissonance some of yall have to accept that gender is a social construct with infinite possibilities with the capacity to be deeply personal and individual but still think there's a list of like 4 acceptable sexual orientations and if you go outside of that list or mix entries on that list or relate to them in a non-traditional way not only are you Breaking The Rules you're personally directly harming people who follow them

Also: there's people who believe gender is a social construct and there are millions of genders with infinite possibilities, but there are of course good ones and bad ones-
But there's also people who believe there are only two sexes, and one of them is "good" (female) and the other one is "bad"(male) and you can transition between them but then you become good or bad by doing so, regardless of your gender.
